Kangstem Biotech has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Connective to collaborate on establishing a scientifically driven and high-efficiency clinical development strategy for its osteoarthritis treatment, OSCA, based on AI-powered imaging analysis techniques.

Through this partnership, the two companies plan to work on: ▲Research into diagnosing osteoarthritis patients and predicting treatment responses using AI-based imaging analysis,

▲Patient stratification and development of personalized treatment strategies based on imaging data,

▲Analysis of disease progression in osteoarthritis patients.

Notably, Kangstem Biotech will utilize Connective’s AI-based radiomics technology. Radiomics is an advanced imaging analysis method that quantitatively analyzes features from medical images such as X-rays and MRIs—features that are often imperceptible to the human eye. This non-invasive approach enables improved diagnosis and prognosis prediction of diseases. By applying radiomics, Kangstem Biotech aims to extract and statistically analyze disease characteristics in patients with moderate knee osteoarthritis. The insights gained will help estimate disease progression, including treatment response and structural deterioration, ultimately leading to the design of large-scale, late-stage clinical trials that enhance drug

development efficiency and support a robust global clinical development strategy.

The Head of Clinical Development at Kangstem Biotech commented, “We expect that the integration of AI technology will significantly strengthen the late-stage clinical trials and global development strategy for OSCA. Osteoarthritis presents a wide range of causes and patient-specific disease characteristics, and we believe AI-based imaging analysis will play a critical role in increasing the success rate of large-scale clinical trials, while also reducing development time and cost. We also anticipate improvements in accuracy and efficiency in clinical data analysis.”

Connective, founded by Professor Doohyun Noh of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Seoul National University Hospital, is a company specializing in AI-powered imaging analysis solutions for musculoskeletal disorders. The company offers a range of AI solutions to support diagnosis, surgical planning, and monitoring of conditions such as knee osteoarthritis. In March 2025, Connective received approval from the UAE Ministry of Health for CONNEVO KOA(a knee osteoarthritis diagnostic support system) and CONNEVO ALI(an AI-based analysis system for lower limb alignment)—the first Korean medical AI products to be approved in the UAE. The company is also preparing to obtain domestic regulatory approval within the year.
